Ransacked

Ransacked is a 3D third-person thieving game where the player controls a thief with a magic bag who can steal just about anything: from the furniture to the floorboards. The thief has no limit on how much they can put into their bag, except how much weight they can carry on their back to the thieves guild. Players must actively balance risk-and-reward in the value of the loot they steal while avoiding detecting by increasingly wary guards.

Ransacked is a PC game developed by a team of 12 over a 16 week period in Unreal Engine 4. It can be downloaded here for free on Itch.io. An Xbox controller is recommended for play.

As lead design I had the following responsibilities:

  • Balance scaling gameplay values for the weight, volume, worth, and noticeability of 200+ loot items
  • Develop a curated-random loot spawning system with the programming lead using level streaming
  • Design and implement patrolling AI guard behavior using a Blueprint FSM
  • Actively participate in and lead design discussions during weekly lead and all-team meetings
  • Collaborate with art leads to create style documentation for loot, SFX, UI, and level design assets
  • Design and write gameplay specs for 4 specialty ‘Heist’ missions
  • Arrange the progressing environmental set designs for the thieves guild hub
