The Cure is an isometric twin-stick shooter set in a city plagued by an airborne zombie virus. An infected scientist dashes across the city looking for a cure, picking up various scraps and MacGyvering them into weapons and defensive gear. The scientist’s health is a timer that ticks down over time or when exposed to the infected air and zombie bites.
The Cure is a PC game developed by a team of 18 over a 16 week period in Unity. It can be downloaded here for free on Itch.io. An Xbox controller is recommended for play.
As lead design I had the following responsibilities:
- Design a modular gun-crafting system for different playstyles and level-driven challenges
- Design and write specs for enemy types, power-ups, level blockouts, and boss encounters,
- Script enemy AI behavior and encounter spawning in C#
- Write and maintain style documentation used for asset creation throughout development
- Host local and blind playtesting sessions each month in order to analyze combat encounters
- Actively lead design discussions during weekly lead and all-team meetings
